In 1958, San Francisco SUN-DEK of California decided to increase its collection by introducing a small line of nylon shorts especially designed for surfing, thus creating Sundek, one of the first brands dedicated to the sport. Innovative solutions like using velcro instead of zippers, putting colorful tropical prints on cotton and their characteristic two-ply quick drying nylon and triple stitching guaranteeing durability over time soon made demand increase.

The Sundek board short is also highly recognizable, always featuring a rainbow on the back and is one of the most widely distributed surf shorts on the market. Once used and created primarily for surfing, it has now become a beachwear classic.
