NEW ARRIVALS FROM GLOBE AUSTRALIA May 28 2015
Short sleeve shirts, slim fit shorts, swim trunks, printed bucket hats, and the eponymous Goodstock Chino have landed at Service for summer from Globe Australia.
From the brand themselves, a brief history of Globe:
"Peter and Stephen Hill founded Hardcore in 1984 and rapidly expanded it to become on the world's largest skateboard distribution companies. At the time, the Hills were professional skateboarders who were dissatisfied with the quality of skate and snow products available in Australia, so they went into business to import the best from the US.
Through constant film productions, promotions, tours, contests, video and magazine advertising, Hardcore became the driving force behind the skateboarding explosion during the mid 80's in Australia.
In 1994, along with brother and current Globe CEO Matt Hill the Globe brand is created. After 10 years of design, production, and distribution with Hardcore, it was time to create a global brand, first with shoes for skaters and surfers, and then with apparel and hardgoods for the broader boardsports market.
Fast forward to today and the same crew of skaters, surfers and snowboarders that started the business back in the 80's has grown to a global network of counter culture artisans that are united by board sports, street fashion, media, and design and film."

INTRODUCING: ALMOND APPAREL May 14 2015
We are pleased to introduce Almond Apparel to the Service brand family. Almond's roots are in surf board design and production with the brand ethos of creating timeless, quality essentials for surfers. The six and a half year old company recently branched out into apparel production. We have picked up a small selection of tees, shirts, and shorts.
We wanted to introduce Almond into our mix for the following reasons:
1) The product is all made in the USA.
2) The creators give attention to craftsmanship and to building relationships with the people who produce their products.
3) The collection has an appealing Southern California style and sensibility which is reflected in each product.
From Almond:
"The shops we are privileged to work with don't necessarily carry surfing as a common thread, but share a desire to make quality USA made goods, and educate the customer about the brands and makers behind them. Thankful for like-minded people and friends who make it all possible."
Almond offers high quality staples for the Summer, which we now offer in the shop and online.
RVCA IS HERE FOR SUMMER May 07 2015
It is no secret Service has a fondness for surf and skate inspired brands. We began selling RVCA when the brand launched in 2001. We were attracted to the collection because it was simple, affordable and durable. Today, almost fifteen years later, each collection maintains those same design sensibilities season after season. Now a much larger enterprise, RVCA remains a great value and a celebration of its casual surf/skate roots.
We sold the original Recession Collection at our Campus store because it was super affordable and cool. It was designed with a Dickies vibe and introduced poly cotton durable blends to skaters, couriers, baristas and students. The Recession Collection pant and short were the original inspiration for what is now the Weekend Chino, a mainstay in RVCA’s broader offering. Then the shorts were basically short versions of Dickies pants. Shirts were poly cotton versions of a two pocket work shirt like guys wore at gas stations and auto garages mostly sold by Dickies at the time. RVCA was the perfect compliment to our Vans offering. They are still great together.
Back then RVCA seemed real, raw and relevant, not unlike Altru, Mollusk or Almond, now. We still love the RVCA team’s smart designs.
Today, RVCA maintains an important place in our assortment. Have a look at our new arrivals including shorts, tees, tanks, swim trunks, and shirts.
In addition, we will always offer RVCA short sleeve and long sleeve oxford shirts in core and seasonal colors, as well as the Weekend Chino, all available in the store and online.
This Fall, we will re-introduce Dickies at Service with the Dickies Construct Collection. Work wear inspired pants and jackets with a modern fit. The Recession Collection is also back as a special collection within the RVCA brand. The clothing will feature the original label on staple basics like cotton tees, sweatshirts and chinos.

Born in Southern California, Hank Foto has been a staple surf photographer for Surfing Magazine since the 80's. Norden Goods have arrived at Service, and we are very happy to welcome these beautiful candles to the stock list. Norden is the creation of husband and wife team Erika and Pete Panciera and their products are all hand made in Encinitas, California - from the creation of the stoneware containers to the pour of the U.S.A sourced soy wax. The scent of each candle is inspired by the smells of Erika and Pete's favorite places, from Big Sur, California to a small town off the coast of Maine.
The best part of these products other than the great scents? The reusable container becomes a keepsake object after the wax has burned away. Just wash the container out with warm water and soap and use it as a coffee cup, succulent planter, pen canister or a shaving mug - the secondary use is up to you!

New Spring jackets have arrived at Service. Above Matthew wears a jacket from the Barbour International Steve McQueen Collection. The Chico jacket in Olive has a corduroy lined double snap collar, signature stars and stripes stud snap and handsome tartan plaid lining based on classic Barbour pieces like the Ashby or Bedale.

We've received a couple of pieces from Deus Ex Machina x Barbour's Spring collaboration. The Hornet Worker jacket features multiple large pockets, concealed button fastenings, and triple stitched seams for extra durability. This jacket is garment dyed and will develop a unique worn-in look over time.

An exciting new addition to the stocklist is Spiewak x Narifuri's M-3 Road Jacket. Narifuri is a Tokyo based clothing brand that specializes in cycling gear. This jacket is fairly technical with multiple large pockets, adjustable snap cuffs, a breathable mesh lining, and underarm vents. Made from a nylon blend to help battle the elements while commuting. And it's a great looking piece to boot.

Made with the urban bike commuter in mind, the 511 commuter jean is now stocked at Service. It's features include a built-in U-lock holster at the back waist, a raised back to help with unwanted skin exposure in the riding position, a reinforced crotch gusset, and reflective tape at the cuffs for better night-time visibility. In addition to a water-repellent & anti-odor finish, this jean has a small amount of stretch in the fabric for ease of movement.

Japanese brand KATO' was born in Kyoto in 1999 from a love of vintage clothing. Hiroshi Kato creates pieces with the timeless nature of his favorite vintage items and the intention the garments will evolve with the wearer. Brand new to Service, Canadian label Reigning Champ has arrived for Fall. We are stocking handcrafted sweatshirts & sweatpants made in beautiful, original fabrics that are developed in-house. The factory is located in Vancouver, BC where Reigning Champ has been based since 2007. We are drawn to these pieces for their simplicity of style and well-executed details. The Midweight Twill Terry hoodie has interior binding that reaches from the inside neck around to the front and down the interior of the center front placket, all in a natural cotton tape. Added side panels are made from 1x1 rib for comfort and movability - a functional detail that also adds interest. We started to refer to the fabric as the raw denim of the sweatshirt world...the more wear each item gets, the better it looks and feels. This collection is meant to pass the test of time and is available as core basics all year round.

GUILLOW'S BALSA AIRPLANES August 26 2014
Started in 1926 by Mr. Paul K. Guillow, a WWI US Navy aviator vet, Guillow's planes was born from a true appreciation of all things aviation. The first balsa wood model kits were fashioned after famous WWI combat air crafts. They gained popularity in 1927 after Charles A. Lindbergh’s infamous first non-stop flight from New York to Paris on the Spirit of St. Louis.
During WWII, balsa wood became increasingly scarce as the US military required the material for use in rafts and life jackets. Plastic became the standard material for model airplanes, which saw a decline in kits using cardboard or pine in place of the lighter balsa wood.
After the war, Guillow changed the focus of his company to produce inexpensive, hand launched rubber powered gliders. We have stocked these same balsa wood gliders which are still produced in the old Guillow’s factory in Wakefield, MA open since 1933. Their vintage appeal and simplicity make the planes enjoyable, easy & fun. Each plane is a great, affordable gift made here in the USA that reminds us of the simple and uncomplicated pleasures in life.
