AN OLD SKOOL AUSTIN OUTING WITH VANS AND MOSCOT June 24 2016
On what felt like the hottest day of the Summer so far, James and I went to Peter Pan Mini Golf, an ever endearing Austin landmark. The idea was to take shots of some of our new arrivals from a few classic brands, Vans and MOSCOT, in one of our favorite, classic locations.
We also went there to stake out the terrain for a future fashion show. That's all we'll say right now about that...
Anyhow, we got our tickets, golf balls, clubs and set out on our sunny Summer Solstice adventure.

This Vans classic skate shoe and first to bare the iconic side "jazz stripe," is a low top lace-up with sturdy canvas uppers, re-enforced toecaps to withstand repeated wear, signature rubber waffle outsoles, and padded collars for support and flexibility. The Old Skool represents timeless skate style with durability that keeps on giving. And they are vegan, which is unusual for the Old Skool style which usually features a leather padded collar and toe cap.

Forty years after its inception Vans had started to produce pattern number 48, the Classic Slip-On. The black pair that we have in stock features a low profile, a slip-on canvas upper with elastic side accents, the Vans flag label and Vans original waffle outsole.
The Oxford & Leather Slip-On 59 is a little different as it features low profile slip-on uppers made with textile and leather detailing. It also includes padded collars, elastic side accents, and the signature rubber waffle outsoles.

Palo Santo - A personal favorite of the store, Palo Santo, is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal. In Spanish, the name literally means “Holy Wood”. It is part of the citrus family and has sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon.
Juniper Ridge: They formulate Wilderness Perfume by distilling and extracting fragrance from wildflowers, plants, bark, moss, mushrooms, and tree trimmings that they harvest on the trail. All of their products are named for the wild places they come from.

FATHER'S DAY IDEAS PART 1: JACK MASON WATCHES June 07 2016

We want to welcome Jack Mason into the Service family and suggest their beautiful Nautical and Aviation inspired watches for Father's Day, which is just around the corner!
The watches are designed and developed in Dallas and feature Super Luminova markings for easy reading during the day or night, a hard mineral crystal face, a 3 year warranty from date of purchase, Japanese Quartz movement, and each dial is hit with a subtle red, white, and blue marking on the second hand, which match the colors of the American Flag.
As an added bonus, the watches with leather straps have a quick release feature so interchangeable leather straps are a fun option.

MADE IN USA ARRIVALS: VELVA SHEEN April 20 2016
New in store arrivals from one of our favorite brands, Velva Sheen, a manufacturer of American sportswear since 1932. Originally based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, the company produced tee shirt blanks for iron-on graphics and was the go-to brand for sweatshirts, t-shirts, and sportswear for camps, colleges, and the United States Armed Forces.
Now based in California, Velva Sheen continues to cut and sew all of its products in the United States of America. Proudly using domestic cotton and traditional techniques, the brand manufactures the best pieces from its archives. The result is a collection of classic knits that have a truly vintage look and feel.

Obey is a streetwear company started by street artist and illustrator Shepard Fairey, who emerged from the skateboarding scene. He first became known for his "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign while attending RISD in the early 90's.

VANS 50TH ANNIVERSARY March 12 2016

When the Van Doren brothers, Gordon Lee and Serge D’Elia, opened the doors to their Vans store on March 16th, 1966, they sold twelve pairs of authentics style shoes. The customers were told to return to the store later in the day; the brothers had to rush to the nearby factory where they manufactured the shoes on the spot! When the customers returned to pick up the shoes, the brothers realized that they forgot to have money till on hand to make change. The Van Doren's asked the customers to return the next day with payment. All twelve customers returned to pay in full. Back in 1966, the Van Doren brothers set out to make quality footwear at an affordable price, and today, 50 years later, Vans continues to achieve their goal.
Service Menswear is proud to feature a capsule collection from their 50th "golden" anniversary styles that prominently feature golden anniversary foil detailing. The shoes come in the original Van Doren shoe box design from 1966.

Unsurprisingly, Vans actively sponsor skateboard, surf, snowboard, BMX and motocross teams, have opened famous skate parks, and have had many famous ambassadors that swear by the Vans name. In addition, Vans has also been a long-time supporter of music, namely as being the primary sponsor of the traveling music festival, Van's Warped Tour. They started the fest in 1996 making it the longest running concert series.

Matt Leines is a Brooklyn based artist that grew up in New Jersey and studied illustration at RISD. His influences range from suburban American culture to primitive and non-western art, myths to masks, He-Man cartoons, and the WWF. Leines creates a surreal, obsessive, highly detailed world inhabited by men and beasts and everything in between, chronicling their conflict and culture.

"If I stumble upon something, I try to draw it in my sketchbook as quick as possible. I like to look at a lot of different paintings from different cultures where you have to infer what is going on. For the Matt Leines/RVCA collaboration featured in the above items, the focus is on the stylized lightening bolt and the tiger "mask", which are recurring images/characters throughout his work. ambsn is a company based in San Clemente, CA. The company was founded by two brothers, Dustin and Dylan Odbert, in 2002. What had originally started as a fundraiser for a friend in need has now become a California inspired menswear brand.
ambsn focuses on colorful, lightweight, tailored clothing for a beach inspired lifestyle. In short, they put a new spin on beloved classics: New Wave Nostalgia.
“We try to keep it a full California beach vibe,” Odbert said. “Everything is always really fun, more tailored toward the fashion and play sides of surf. We have a pretty wide demographic we sell to.”

"My name is Yusuke Hanai. Illustrator from Japan. I started surfing when I was in high school. I surfed at my local reef break. And I will keep surfing from that point on for the rest of my life."

Much to his conservative parent's chagrin, Yusuke Hanai followed his dream of becoming an artist by saving up money bartending before attending art school in San Francisco. He continued to surf while in SF and was influenced by the people and counter culture there. His art is now known worldwide and it all came from continuing to pursue his passions.
"I liked doodling ever since I was a kid...I like people, especially weird people. Weird people are interesting and such great characters. And there are so many of those types of people in surfing. Of course I love surfing so sometimes I like to draw surfers."

The Authentic SF canvas shoe and the Mens Hanelei flip flop are the result of the collaboration between Vans and Hanai. They showcase the Japanese artist's modern mid-century details and illustration while maintaining the classic Vans form. New Arrival: Alex Matus Road Dog Tee February 03 2016
Alex Matus, traveling tattoo artist, lover of heavy metal, and all around cool chick recently partnered with Babes Ride Out, "an annual all female overnight motorcycle adventure," to kick off their artist series with a limited edition tee shirt design. The tee shirt, pictured above, is available at our brick and mortar and our online store.
In an interview with Babes Ride Out, Alex says of her tattooing, "[they look] like something you’d find on a denim vest or gracing the side of a van." When you get to know Alex a little better, you can see where she gets her style. Right now, she's living, "the van life on the road. So, wherever the van is parked, there [she] be!" Alex's art is inspired by the open road, Judas Priest, and the places she's been. After a stop here in Austin, she summed up her experience simply: "I got to tattoo all day and headbang all night, and that town has the most mind-numbingly awesome food."

Juniper Ridge In Store And Online November 24 2015
Juniper Ridge is an Oakland, California based fragrance company started by Hall Newbegin. Juniper Ridge is his solution to the perfume world becoming, in his words, "weird and disconnected from nature." A self-proclaimed "nature freak," Newbegin strives to create aromatic snapshots of his favorite places, whether that's California's Big Sur or the lakes and peaks of Oregon's Mount Hood.
Born in Oregon, Newbegin spent the summers of his childhood and early adult life on the trails of different national parks learning the names of flowers, harvesting wild mushrooms, and making fermented-honey wine. Newbegin's wildcrafting experience starts in '92, when he took an herbal medicine class in Oakland. These few days spent in Sierra Nevada gave life to what he calls the "primitive parts of [his] brain," or his "animal senses." From then on, Newbegin has been unable to stay away from the wild.
After years of harvesting medicinal plants for his own collection and sometimes for tincture makers or commercial mushroom gatherers, Newbegin started Juniper Ridge. All Juniper Ridge products are made from 100% wildcrafted ingredients gathered by a small team of people that go into the wild for up to weeks at a time. The ingredients are then distilled, tinctured, infused or any of several other old world perfuming techniques in the Field Lab (pictured below) to create a scent unique to that harvest.
Each batch is hand numbered and produced in limited quantities, not by choice but by necessity. “We couldn't make any more if we wanted to—the plants and flowers are done for the year,” Newbegin says. 10% of all Juniper Ridge profits are donated to a portfolio of Western Wilderness Defense organizations. The company tirelessly works to promote education as to how best to protect the intact forest habitats of the West.

The Bedale's waxed cotton outer, the two-way heavy duty brass zippers, and reinforcing button closure details are as durable and handsome, as they are practical. Moleskin lined pockets and a corduroy, sit down collar are additional features that help keep the wind and rain out. The 100% cotton lining features Barbour's classic tartan print. The much anticipated Okayama Spirit 2 from Naked & Famous is here. The 100% cotton, 18 ounce Japanese denim is made from a rare, slubby yarn and, to preserve the look of the fabric, is unsanforized. The Okayama Spirit 2 has unique dual fading on the inside and the outside of the jean.
Barbour Lowerdale Quilted Vest
The Barbour Lowerdale Quilted Vest is a 100% polyester vest with two exterior snap pockets, an interior zip pocket and two convenient size adjusters on either side. The quilted shell fabric features a polyamide lining. The oversized, two-way zipper pull is accompanied by brass button closures. The vest also features a warm Polarfleece® collar lining. The Lowerdale is a perfect layer for those not quite winter days. Also available in navy.
Goodbye, VANS California November 11 2015
The VANS California Collection comes to an end this season. The Cali Collection, denoted by the use of the VANS pig skin label, makes use of higher quality materials, and has better foot support.
Service has carried VANS for over two decades and you will see influences from the Cali Collection carry over to the VANS Classics and Surf collections in the upcoming Spring 2016 season. We currently are stocking 26 different styles of VANS in our brick and mortar location and there are always more coming in. INTRODUCING TCG November 05 2015
Since 2009, TCG has been making small-batch, hand made shoes. You may know them as Thorocraft, their name before a 2015 rebranding shortened it to the three letter name they have today. TCG stands for Thoroughly Crafted Goods.
Using the highest quality leathers, TCG uses old world hand-crafting methods to create a shoe that’s comfortable and long-lasting. While the idea of a minimal, monochromatic shoe is nothing new, TCG has taken what has been done before and perfected it with fully cushioned footbeds, supple pigskin linings, and Vachetta leather uppers and heel caps.
During the short production runs, every shoe is rigorously inspected in order to receive the TCG seal of approval and mark of quality; a copper rivet hammered into the heel.

INTRODUCING: DICKIES CONSTRUCT October 27 2015
Introducing Dickies Construct, a new line from Dickies that blends their iconic workwear with a modern, slimmer fit and rich seasonal colors. Dickies is a company that has always adapted to the times, from their beginnings as an overall manufacturer to the early 90s when punks and skaters co-opted the brand. This willingness to change and evolve is what has kept Dickies around for close to 100 years.
Many people will associate Dickies with the hard-working, salt of the earth mechanic or truck driver, not the younger, more fashion conscious image that the Construct line brings with it. The slim silhouettes and clean lines of Dickies Construct don’t replace the durability of the original, but complement it. Much of the Construct line is made from the same technical fabrics as their workwear.
Several of the pieces in the Dickies Construct collection are made from patterns found in the Dickies archive room. The Quilted Overshirt is a design from the 1940s. Minus the quilting, this exact shirt was being manufactured during the Second World War. Shirts during this time generally fit much baggier than the shirts of today. Dickies designed this overshirt to create a more tailored look while still leaving room to comfortably wear a shirt underneath.

Max Gitman opened the Ashland Shirt & Pajama Company in Ashland, Pennsylvania in 1932. His two sons, in 1978, turned that into the brand we know today as the Gitman Brothers. The brand has long been a mainstay here at Service. Season after season, the brothers have consistently made beautiful, vintage inspired shirts that we’re proud to carry. Their many years of experience making well-constructed, comfortable shirts show in the Gitman Vintage Fall/Winter 2015 collection.
New arrivals include a beautiful wool overshirt with a hidden button down collar, in addition to several plaids and ginghams with rich colors perfect for the upcoming cool weather. We’ve also introduced a light-weight, grey flannel, and a selection from Gitman Vintage’s ‘Seed To Sew’ collection.
With the ‘Seed To Sew’ collection, Gitman embraces their roots by making shirts with 100% American made materials. Everything about these shirts, from the cotton grown in American soil to the shirt factories in Pennsylvania, is made in the USA.

Introducing Velva Sheen, a vintage inspired sportswear company focused on recreating classic basics that are perfect for layering or on their own in the late Texas summer.
Originally founded in 1936 and located in Cincinnati Ohio, Velva Sheen produced custom printed shirts which separated them from many knitwear competitors at the time. More recently Velva Sheen has shifted production to California while retaining their original vintage logo and design. A great aspect of these shirts is that they are circular knit, meaning they do not have any side seams for extra comfort. Once you go seamless there’s no looking back.
Velva Sheen creates all their garments with the utmost attention to detail while incorporating a variety of different fabrics and dying processes to keep things interesting. Ranging from indigo garment dye to slubby irregular knits, each piece is unique. And staying true to their roots, all of their pieces are made in the USA.
NEW SHIRTS AND UNSTRUCTURED BLAZER FROM HARTFORD September 15 2015
New arrivals from Hartford are now at Service for Fall. We have stocked a variety of solid and plaid shirts ranging from oxford cloth to brushed flannel and chambray. The materials are luxe and soft as we have come to know from Hartford. We are now introducing each shirt in a slim fit with a button down collar.
In addition, we have stocked an unstructured boiled wool blazer in dark navy. The garment is lightweight and soft. The blazer features four buttons at the front with an extra button at the collar for additional coverage.

NEW FRAGRANCES FROM FIELE September 11 2015
Service is now stocking three fragrances from FIELE. All scents are blended by hand with natural grain alcohol and compounded in small, fresh batches in Santa Monica, CA. The fragrances are luxe, clean and a little earthy, with an emphasis on superior quality natural ingredients. Every composition is made with globally sourced wildcrafted and organic essential oils, CO2 extracts and absolutes.
Absolutes are similar to essential oils. They are concentrated, highly aromatic, oily mixtures extracted from plants. All batches are chilled and triple filtered prior to filling. 100% Cruelty-Free, not tested on animals.
Each fragrance comes in a 1.7 fl oz / 50 ml bottle and is an EDP (Eau de Parfum).
The name "FIELE", pronounced fil, is borrowed from an old West Frisian word meaning "to feel”. Frisia is a coastal region along the southeastern corner of the North Sea.

New from the Vans California Collection, the Sk8-Hi Cup in Black & Whisper White. This sleeker version of the Classic Sk8-Hi has a new cup sole for added support and durability, as opposed to the traditional vulcanized sole. In addition to added comfort, the cup sole gives the classic shape extra appeal, with the visible tonal stitching. If you're a skater, the technical aspects of this shoe are great and if you're wearing them casually you'll get the bonus of added comfort for just kicking around.
Another new addition to our Vans selection is the Vintage Old Skool in Dark Earth & Aluminum. This one features contrast white stitching on soft suede with a classic white sole and white laces.
We've really been loving the gumsole as an alternate option to the classic white rubber sole. This is the first Old Skool we've introduced with a gumsole. Classic black and white with a twist.
